CHANGING THE APPEARANCE OF A WEBSITE

To change the appearance of the website, you need to go to the Appearance menu located to the left of your WordPress dashboard. There are several elements in the Appearance menu, which we will explain one by one in this article.

THEMES

Themes is the place to change the theme of your website. The way to change it is to click Appearance > Themes, then a screen display will appear as shown below:

There are hundreds of free themes that you can choose from as you wish. For those of you who are still beginners, we recommend using free rather than paid themes. Because free WordPress themes are already quite good in terms of quality and appearance.

You can try these themes before applying them to your website. The trick is to hover over the theme you choose, then click preview.

After determining the theme selection, click Activate to use the theme on your website.

CUSTOMIZE

Customize is a place to modify the appearance of your website. The way to enter the customize menu is to click appearance > customize. So a sidebar will appear as shown below:

The following is an explanation of each feature in the customize page:

• Site Identity: change the website Title, Subtitles (tagline), add a company logo, and add an icon to your website.
• Colors & Background: used to change the color of the title or subtitle, as well as the background on your website. Usually the colors available depend on the built-in pallette of the theme. But you can also replace the background with the image you want.
• Fonts: change the form of writing used in the website.
• Header Image: adds an image to the Header (top) of the website.
• Menus: change the menu at the top of the website. The explanation of menus is explained in the next chapter.
• Widgets: change widgets. The explanation of Widgets will be explained in the next chapter.
• Static Front Page: changes the opening page. You can choose the page that visitors will see when going to the main domain of your website. Whether it’s based on a recent post or a Front Page (a silent page). We recommend choosing a static page if you want to create a website for business.
• Theme: modifies the built-in appearance of the theme. Sometimes this feature is not present in the Appearance sub menu if you choose a specific theme. The existence and content of this feature depends on the theme you choose.

WIDGETS

Widgets adalah blok kecil yang terletak di sisi website. Anda bisa mengatur dan menambahkan Widgets apa yang ingin ditampilkan pada website Anda. Terdapat berbagai macam Widgets sesuai dengan fungsi dan tampilannya masing-masing. Yang perlu Anda lakukan adalah, cukup dengan drag and drop Widgets pilihan Anda ke bagian Widget Area.

Untuk mengatur Widget, cukup dengan klik panah kecil di pinggir kanan masing-masing widget yang telah Anda pasang di Widget Area.

MENUS

Menus adalah tempat di mana Anda bisa menaruh tautan-tautan penting dalam Website. Fitur Menus bisa digunakan sebagai navigasi website. Berikut ini adalah tampilan fitur Menus dalam sub menu Appearance:

 

To add a new menu, you can click create a new menu. Meanwhile, editing menus can be done by clicking the small arrow on the right edge of the menu box. You should first plan how the website structure that you will apply to the website, so that the website does not become messy.

The Widgets and Menus features in the Appearance sub menu can be interrelated. The explanation of these two features will be discussed in more detail in the next chapter.

HEADER & BACKRGOUND

Basically, you will be carried away to the customize page when you click the link on this Appearance sub menu. This article has explained about header & background in the customize section.

AMP & MOBILE

Both features in the Appearance sub menu are useful for managing the appearance of your website if website visitors access it via mobile. The difference is, AMP is a very lightweight version, so you can only change the color of the appearance of your website.

While it’s a mobile feature, you can simply change it. Be careful because some themes do not support for the mobile version. You should choose a theme that is mobile-friendly, so that your potential customers can access the website via smartphone.
