Create a site using Wix Editor
To see how Wix Editor works, let’s say we’re trying to build the same digital marketing agency website.
Description: To create a new site, click the ‘Create New Site’ option from the ‘Sites’ menu item. Once clicked, Wix will ask you what type of site you want to create.
In this case, we chose the website category ‘Business’. But this time, we created a site with the Wix editor because now we want to try the editor. This leads us to the next step;
Step 3 – Choose an existing site template from Wix
After clicking the ‘Start with Wix Editor’ button, you will be directed to several templates. As you can see on the following page, Wix has already highlighted several relevant templates in the ‘Business’ category. But that’s not all, there are several search options to help you sift through the right template (check out the existing templates from Wix).
For the template, let’s select ‘Advertising and Marketing Company’.
Edit existing templates from Wix After selecting a template, you’ll see the entire Wix Editor dashboard. You have 3 main areas in the Wix dashboard (see highlighted sections): 1) The centerpiece is your website – and once you make changes, you can preview them in real-time; 2) on the right, you have options that allow you to delete, duplicate, rotate and adjust the placement of some elements on your site; and 3) on the left are the building blocks and design options you can use.

Step 4 – Adding free elements and functions Let’s look at all the elements in detail in the building blocks and design options
. 1. Website background
For site backgrounds, Wix supports solid colors, images, and videos. If you want to change the background color, you can simply click on the ‘Color’ option, and Wix will display the color palette. When you hover over any color from the palette, Wix will display it in real-time. If you prefer an image background, you can upload your own image or choose from the collection of beautiful images that Wix offers for free. Not only beautiful images, Wix also organizes them in several categories. Similarly, if you want to try a video background, you can upload your own video or choose from the Wix collection.

If you’ve ever tried to recreate demos of most website builder templates, you probably know how your designs compare to them. This often happens due to a lack of image quality, but not on Wix. 2. Content blocks and design elements The “Add” option allows you to add design elements to your website. These elements include: Text Picture Gallery Slideshow Knob Box Line Form Videos music Social Contact Menu List light box Blog Shop And much more As you add the three elements, you’ll notice that Wix pays attention to every little detail. For example, for our sample website, I decided to add a CTA (Call to Action) button to the main menu. So when I click on a button design element, Wix will display several button styles and choose a suggested style that matches my template. See ‘Button With Theme’ on the following page:
Another thing to note is that this design element is fully customizable. In our case, the CTA button I put in the menu looks too space-consuming because it’s a little bigger and the font doesn’t match the default menu font. But there is an easy way to fix this problem. Just click an element, and a design toolbox will appear. After clicking the brush icon, you will be presented with several customization options. To match our CTA button with the rest of the menu, we can easily change the font and size. This is enough to make the newly added element look like part of the design.
If you compare this design tool with those offered by most other platforms like Squarespace, you’ll see that there are more elements with XNUMX styles and customization options for each. Wix has more features than most other site builders offe
r. 3. Website functionality via Wix App Market
The ‘Wix App Market’ is a repository with many third-party applications and native Wix applications that allow you to expand the functionality of your website. If you just want to create a simple website, you won’t need any additional apps because Wix already has all the features and functionality you need. However, there are times when you need a feature that is not yet on Wix. Or, maybe you want to grow your website or add marketing support to it. At that point, simply visit the Wix App Market. Lots of free apps and some premium apps also in it. While the apps you add will depend on your needs, there is one I recommend and that is the ‘Wix Get Subscribers’ app. You can use it to add signup forms and pop-ups on your website and build email lists very quickly. 4. My Uploads The ‘My Uploads’ section on wix is like your personal image gallery. This section contains all the visual files you upload to Wix such as images, videos, audio, and other files that you can add to your site. 5. Wix for Blog Writing If you wish, you can add more elements to this page. Just use the ‘Add Blog Element’ option from the ‘Blog Manager’ menu:
After clicking the ‘Add Now’ button, the blog page will be added to your website. If you take a look at the page layout, you’ll notice that it has a (fully customizable) sidebar with useful options such as search by tags, featured posts widget, and recent posts widget.
You can add more elements to this page. Just use the ‘Add Blog Element’ option from the ‘Blog Manager’ menu. The “Add Blog Elements” option allows you to add other elements to your blog page such as: disqus Komentar comments Facebook Comments Custom feedback RSS Category And many others. Apart from that, this section also suggests some Wix apps that can add more support to your blog. Wix has previously pre-populated your blog pages with sample posts so that you can create new content more easily later. 6. Order The Ordering option can be very useful if you want to offer a consultation or anything else that requires an ordering system. This includes all the options in the left pane as well as the Wix editor in general. Step 5 – Publish and Go Live Your website is now ready to be published. Before you click the button at the top right to publish the first Wix website, you can preview it. Make sure you are satisfied with every part of the website before you click “Publish”. Once you press that button, you will see your domain name appear in the popup. You can choose to connect your Wix site to your own domain (by pointing your domain name server to Wix) or leave it the default. Your Wix site is now officially live! Manage and update your site using Site Manager After completing the Website design, you can access the site settings from the ‘Sites’ menu option.
Options in Wix Site Manager Domain Domain settings allow you to connect a custom domain and add a custom favicon to your Wix website. However, you need a Wix premium plan to do this. SEO The SEO settings allow you to add custom tracking and other code to your website. You can add tracking codes for Google Webmaster Tools, Bing Webmaster Tools, Twitter Cards, Pinterest Verification, and more*. Learn more about the basics of SEO in full here. Mobile This setting only ensures that you are running a mobile-friendly website. Language & Region One of Wix’s mainstay features is that it helps you localize your website. In the ‘Language & Region’ settings, you can specify the language of your website. Business Information In the ‘Business Information’ settings, you can add details such as business name, address, email and many others. Social The ‘Social’ setting allows you to add a Facebook profile to the site. (I’m really curious why only Facebook is included here!) Analysis Unlike some website builders, Wix doesn’t have its own website or visitor metrics tracking system. For tracking purposes, Wix integrates with Google Analytics so you can add your Google Analytics scripts here. Roles & Permissions Wix allows you to add multiple users to your website and supports multiple user roles such as blog contributor, editor, admin, and so on. SSL Certificate Currently, Wix does not support third-party SSL certificates. However, all sites built on Wix have HTTPs enabled automatically. *Additional notes for SEO settings: A very unique SEO tool from Wix here is SEO Wiz. This tool will help sites with on-page SEO.
To start using this tool, click on the ‘Start’ button from the SEO options panel. When you start optimizing with Wix’s SEO tool, it will first ask for information about your business. After you answer it, you will be asked to enter 5 keywords that you want to use to optimize the website. Just enter the keywords and click on the ‘Create SEO Package’ option. After a while, you’ll see several checklists with steps that will help make your site search engine friendly.
