The founder of the website was Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee, while the first network-connected website appeared in 1991. Tim’s intent when designing the website was to facilitate the exchange and updating of information with fellow researchers where he worked. On April 30, 1993, CERN (where Tim works) announced that the WWW could be used free of charge by the public. A website can be the work of an individual or individuals, or show ownership of an organization, company. Usually the discussion on a website refers to one or several special topics, or certain interests. A website may contain links to other websites, as well as other websites. This sometimes makes the distinction between websites created by individuals or individuals with websites created by business organizations not so clear. Websites are usually placed on a web server. A web server generally has been equipped with special software to handle domain name settings, as well as handle services over the HTTP protocol called HTTP Server (English: HTTP Server) such as Apache HTTP Server, or Internet Information Services (IIS).
