There are many computer network devices that play an important role in the creation of a network. Do you know what these computer network devices are? Check out the various computer network devices below:

1. Servers

Server is a special device or computer that provides various services or services to clients connected to it. Generally, servers are equipped with fairly high hardware specifications, especially in terms of processors (usually using Intel Xeon) and RAM (more than 16GB on average).

Because they have to do multitasking activities that are quite heavy, it is not surprising that to build a computer server requires a fairly high cost. Not only that, the operating system used is also special, namely Windows Server or Linux Debian.

2. Routers

Router is a network device that functions to connect two or more networks so that data can be sent from one network to another. By using a router, we can connect two different networks, for example 192.168.2.0/24 can connect to the 200.200.200.0/24 network.

At first glance, the way routers work can be said to be similar to bridges, which are both forwarding data packets, dividing the network into several segments or uniting the network segments, it’s just that the router is in the third layer of OSI.

3. NAS (Network Attached Storage)

Network Attached Storage or abbreviated as NAS is a storage device that is connected to the main network so that when the client computer requires additional storage, the role of this NAS will be needed.

The way this NAS works is almost similar to cloud storage services but is private (local) so only client computers (connected to the office / company network) can access it. The price of this NAS is quite expensive, ranging from 2 million to more than 60 million, depending on the brand and specifications.

4. Wireless Card

Wireless card is a network device that can connect two devices wirelessly or without using cable media. By using a wireless card, two or more computers can be connected to each other via a wifi network, without having to use a network cable.

Most of today’s laptops are equipped with wireless cards in them, so we don’t need to buy them separately, in contrast to computers, which we have to buy separately first. Even so, if your laptop’s default wireless card is problematic, you can use a USB Wireless Adapter to fix it.

5. LAN Card

As with other network devices, LAN cards also function to connect two or more computers using cable media. This device is usually widely used in LAN networks.

The LAN card is also in charge of converting parallel data streams into serial forms, so that they can be transmitted over network media such as UTP cables. Generally, LAN cards have been installed on-board on the motherboard of a computer or laptop, but some must first be installed in the slot (ISA or PCI Express slot) provided by the motherboard.

6. USB Wi-Fi Adapter

USB type WiFi Adapter has been circulating in the market. A USB WiFi Adapter can be used as a solution for those of you who are confused because your laptop or computer’s default Wifi Card is problematic so you can’t connect to a Wifi network (hotspot).

The function of the USB WiFi Adapter is exactly the same as the Wifi Card in general, the difference is that this device has a fairly high mobility, just plug it into a USB port so it can be used immediately (by first installing the driver). The price range for the USB WiFi Adapter is Rp. 300,000 to Rp. 600,000 depending on the brand and specifications.

7. Modem

Modulator demodulator or often abbreviated as modem is a network device that has the function of converting digital signals into analog signals or vice versa.

The data given to the computer to the modem is generally in the form of a digital signal. Therefore, when the modem gets data in the form of an analog signal, the modem must first convert it into a digital signal so that it can be further processed by the computer. There are many types of modems that we can find, such as ADSL modems, USB modems, Mifi modems and so on.
