HTML History

What is the History of HTML and the Development of HTML Versions? HTML has been a major web technology from the 1990s after Tim Berners-Lee, a physicist at the CERN Research Institute, created it in 1989. The original purpose of HTML was to serve readers to open HTML-formatted documents. However, along with the vital benefits of HTML, so far there are 5 versions that you are familiar with, as follows:

1. HTML v1.0 This first version of HTML was the pioneer of HTML development. No wonder this version has a lot of weaknesses, including the appearance is still very simple. HTML version 1.0 is able to support placing images in documents without wrapping, headings, hypertext, paragraphs, bold and italics in writing text.

2. HTML v2.0 (24 November 1995) HTML version 2.0 was the pioneer of the interactive web as you find it today. Compared to the first version, the HTML structure is more organized and able to display document forms. With this form, you can enter your address, name, suggestions and criticisms on a document.

3. HTML v3.0 When compared to the two previous versions of HTML, HTML v3.0 does not have a long lifespan. That’s because there is a newer version of version 3, which is version 3.2. In version 3.0, HTML can already be used to put tables and figures. The latest features of HTML 3.0 are also able to support the use of mathematical formulas in the document.

4. HTML v3.2 (14 January 1996) This HTML version is an update from version 3.0. Until now, this type of HTML is the most frequently used. This version is published and the first version specifically developed and standardized by the W3C. Version 3.2 was originally called Wilbur before being known as HTML version 3.2. The features in this version include images for backgrounds, tables, styles, frames, and text around the image. If in previous versions, you could only use HTML for document creation, but not in this version. This means that you can use scripts outside of HTML for better HTML performance or for specific purposes. Some HTML scripts that can be used include Javascript and VBScript.

5. HTML v4.0 (18 December 1997) Compared to the previous version, this version comes with many changes from v3.2. Some of them are in tables, links, images, text, meta, forms and imagemaps.

6. HTML v4.01 (5 May 2000) After there is version 4.0, there is version 4.01 which is a revision of the previous version. In this version, there is a minor error fix. From the structure in the HTML that is in this version, making HTML v4.01 a standardization of elements and attributes of XHTML 1.0 scripts.

7. HTML v5.0 (28 October 2014) That said, version 5.0 of HTML is the most advanced and most stable version compared to the previous version. This update was only introduced in 2009. This latest version was developed again on March 4, 2010 by the W3C and the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). IETF itself is an organization that has handled HTML since v2.0.
